Biblical genealogies identify Abigail as a sister of David and Zeruiah. She was the mother of Amasa, who later commanded Absalom's army during the rebellion against David and was subsequently appointed by David over his own army before being killed by Joab. The wording concerning Amasa's father varies in biblical references, but Abigail's relationship to David and Amasa is clear. Scripture gives no independent narrative of her life.
