Abiud is named in Matthew's genealogy of Jesus as a descendant of Zerubbabel and an ancestor of Eliakim.
Biography
Matthew 1 places Abiud in the postexilic portion of Jesus' genealogy: Zerubbabel fathered Abiud, Abiud fathered Eliakim, and the line continues toward Joseph, husband of Mary. Abiud is not otherwise given a narrative in Scripture, and attempts to identify him with similarly named Old Testament individuals remain uncertain.
Biblical Significance
Abiud's significance comes from his place in Matthew's presentation of Jesus' Davidic and postexilic ancestry. Scripture provides no basis for a fuller personal biography.
