Ahimaaz
son of the high priest Zadok
Ahimaaz was a son of Zadok the priest who served as a messenger for David during Absalom's rebellion.
Biography
During Absalom's revolt, David sent Zadok and Abiathar back to Jerusalem, where their sons Ahimaaz and Jonathan could carry intelligence to him. The young men narrowly escaped discovery while bringing David warning about Ahithophel's counsel. After Absalom was killed, Ahimaaz eagerly requested permission to run with news to David. He outran the Cushite messenger but, when questioned about Absalom, avoided directly reporting his death. A later Ahimaaz named among Solomon's district officials may or may not be the same man.
Biblical Significance
Ahimaaz served David loyally in a dangerous intelligence network during the rebellion. His story illustrates the practical role of priestly families in preserving communication with the exiled king.
