Aram

Biography

Genesis 10 and 1 Chronicles 1 list Aram among the sons of Shem, alongside Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, and Lud. The name later becomes strongly associated with the Arameans and territories called Aram, including Aram-Damascus. Scripture gives no personal narrative of the ancestral Aram himself.

Biblical Significance

Aram is important genealogically in the Table of Nations and as the ancestral name connected with peoples who later interact extensively with Israel. The individual ancestor should be distinguished from the later nation and territories bearing the name.
