Azariah son of Oded was a prophet who encouraged King Asa and Judah to seek the Lord and undertake religious reform.
Biography
Second Chronicles 15 says the Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded. He went out to meet Asa after military victory and declared that the Lord would be with Judah while they were with Him, but that forsaking Him would bring abandonment. He recalled earlier disorder when Israel lacked true worship and urged Asa to be strong. Encouraged by the prophecy, Asa removed idols, repaired the Lord's altar, gathered the people, and entered a covenant to seek God wholeheartedly.
Biblical Significance
Azariah's message helped inspire one of Judah's major reform movements. His ministry emphasizes seeking God, courage in reform, and the relationship between covenant faithfulness and divine help.
