Bezalel son of Uri was the chief craftsman specially empowered by God's Spirit to construct the tabernacle and its sacred furnishings.
Biography
God named Bezalel of the tribe of Judah and filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and craftsmanship. Working with Oholiab and other skilled artisans, Bezalel oversaw and executed the tabernacle's artistic work, including the ark, furnishings, priestly-related objects, metalwork, woodwork, and woven materials according to God's instructions to Moses. Exodus repeatedly emphasizes that the craftsmen made the sanctuary as the Lord had commanded.
Biblical Significance
Bezalel is a major biblical example of artistic and technical skill as a Spirit-enabled vocation. His work shows craftsmanship placed directly in the service of worship and obediently shaped by God's instructions.
