Biography

First Chronicles 2 places Caleb, also called Chelubai in the genealogy, among the sons or descendants of Hezron in Judah's line. The chapter records wives and descendants associated with him, including Hur through Ephrath. This genealogical Caleb belongs to an earlier Judahite family context and should not automatically be identified with Caleb son of Jephunneh from Numbers and Joshua.

Biblical Significance

This Caleb is significant for Judah's genealogy and ancestry leading into important clans. Maintaining the distinction from Caleb the spy is essential for accurate crosslinking.
