Eliezer was the second son of Moses and Zipporah, named in remembrance of God's help in delivering Moses from Pharaoh.

Biography

Exodus 18 identifies Moses' two sons as Gershom and Eliezer. Moses explained Eliezer's name by saying that the God of his father had been his help and had delivered him from Pharaoh's sword. Jethro later brought Zipporah and the two sons to Moses in the wilderness. First Chronicles records descendants of Eliezer through Rehabiah.

Biblical Significance

Eliezer's name memorializes God's protection of Moses before the Exodus. His importance is primarily within Moses' family genealogy.
