Eliphaz was the firstborn son of Esau by Adah and the father of several Edomite clans, including Amalek through his concubine Timna.
Biography
Genesis 36 and 1 Chronicles 1 identify Eliphaz as Esau's son. His sons included Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz; Timna was his concubine and bore Amalek. These descendants became chiefs among Edom's clans. Scripture gives no personal narrative of Eliphaz beyond the genealogy.
Biblical Significance
Eliphaz is important in the ancestry of Edom and especially as father of Amalek. He must be distinguished from Eliphaz the Temanite, Job's friend.
