Genesis 10 and 1 Chronicles 1 identify Joktan as a son of Eber and brother of Peleg. Thirteen sons are listed, including Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. Genesis associates their territory with a broad region extending toward the east or southeast.
