Judith is the heroine of the deuterocanonical Book of Judith who saves her people by killing the invading general Holofernes.
Biography
The Book of Judith portrays Judith as a devout Jewish widow who rebukes the leaders of Bethulia for testing God during an enemy siege. She enters Holofernes' camp, gains access to him, and when he becomes drunk, beheads him with his own sword. She returns with his head, and the resulting panic helps Israel defeat the enemy. Judith is not a character in the Protestant Old Testament canon.
Biblical Significance
