Keturah
biblical character, third wife of Abraham
Keturah was Abraham's wife after Sarah and the mother of six sons whose descendants became associated with peoples east and south of Canaan.
Biography
Genesis 25 says Abraham took Keturah as a wife and that she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them eastward while giving his principal inheritance to Isaac. First Chronicles repeats Keturah's genealogy and calls her Abraham's concubine, terminology that can describe her secondary status relative to Sarah.
Biblical Significance
Keturah's descendants broaden the biblical genealogy of Abraham beyond Isaac and Ishmael and help explain kinship connections with peoples such as Midian.
