Magog
Son of Japheth in Genesis 10, and people descended from him
Magog was a son of Japheth in Genesis and later a name used for a people or land in Ezekiel's prophecy concerning Gog.
Biography
Genesis 10 and 1 Chronicles 1 list Magog among the sons of Japheth. Ezekiel 38-39 describes Gog of the land of Magog leading a great coalition against restored Israel before being decisively judged by God. Revelation 20 later uses 'Gog and Magog' symbolically for nations gathered in final rebellion. Scripture does not provide a personal narrative of the ancestral Magog.
Biblical Significance
Magog is important both in the Table of Nations and in later prophetic imagery. AVWJ should distinguish the Genesis ancestor from Ezekiel's land or people and Revelation's symbolic reuse of the names.
