The Queen of Sheba was an unnamed foreign monarch who traveled to Jerusalem to test Solomon's wisdom and was overwhelmed by his wisdom, prosperity, and worship arrangements.
Biography
First Kings 10 and 2 Chronicles 9 recount the queen arriving with a large caravan, spices, gold, and precious stones. She asked Solomon difficult questions and found that he answered them all. After observing his palace, officials, servants, offerings, and wisdom, she praised the God of Israel for placing Solomon on the throne. She exchanged lavish gifts with Solomon and returned to her own land. Jesus later referred to the 'queen of the South' who came to hear Solomon's wisdom.
Biblical Significance
The Queen of Sheba serves as an international witness to the extraordinary wisdom God gave Solomon. Jesus uses her journey to underscore the accountability of those who fail to respond to One greater than Solomon.
