Simon the Tanner was a Christian in Joppa who hosted the apostle Peter at his seaside home.

Biography

Acts 9 says Peter stayed many days in Joppa with Simon, a tanner, after the raising of Tabitha. Acts 10 places Peter at Simon's house when Cornelius's messengers arrived and when Peter received the vision that prepared him to enter a Gentile household. Simon's house was by the sea.

Biblical Significance

Simon the Tanner's hospitality provided the setting for a decisive transition in Acts as Peter was prepared to recognize God's welcome of Gentile believers.
