Biography

Genesis 30 records Leah giving birth to Zebulun and associating his name with the hope that Jacob would honor or dwell with her after she had borne six sons. Zebulun later went to Egypt with Jacob's household. Jacob's final blessing associates Zebulun with the seashore and ships, while Moses' blessing joins Zebulun with Issachar in rejoicing in their activities and calling peoples to the mountain. Zebulun's descendants became one of Israel's northern tribes.

Biblical Significance

Zebulun is one of Israel's twelve tribal patriarchs. The tribe later participated prominently in Israel's wars and is remembered with Naphtali in prophetic and New Testament geography connected with Galilee.
