Printing and Modern Bibles — Hebrew and Greek Source Editions
Nestle-Aland and UBS Greek New Testaments
AD 1898-present
Modern concise Greek New Testaments compare a broad range of manuscripts and report significant variants in a critical apparatus.
Full Account
Eberhard Nestles 1898 edition initially compared major nineteenth-century editions. Erwin Nestle and later Kurt and Barbara Aland expanded its manuscript basis and apparatus. The United Bible Societies Greek New Testament, first published in 1965, presents the same edited text in a format focused on decisions important to translators. These editions remain open to revision as evidence is reassessed.
Historical Significance
Nestle-Aland and UBS editions have become principal Greek sources for modern New Testament translation while allowing readers to inspect the evidence behind disputed readings.
