Printing and Modern Bibles — Translation Scholarship
The UBS Greek New Testament Serves Translators
AD 1965-present
The United Bible Societies Greek New Testament presents a scholarly Greek text with an apparatus designed around variants most important for translation.
Full Account
The first edition was edited by Kurt Aland, Matthew Black, Bruce Metzger, and Allen Wikgren. Unlike the more extensive Nestle-Aland apparatus, the UBS edition concentrates on selected variation units and supplies evidence useful to translators. Later editions aligned their text with Nestle-Aland while revising the apparatus and evaluations.
Historical Significance
The UBS edition connects textual criticism directly with worldwide Bible translation and makes significant decisions transparent to translation teams.
