Canon and the Ancient Christian Bible — Major Manuscripts
Bodmer Papyrus P75
c. AD 175-225
P75 preserves substantial portions of Luke and John and closely resembles the later text of Codex Vaticanus.
Full Account
P75 is a carefully copied papyrus codex containing sections of two Gospels. The presence of Luke and John together provides early evidence for multi-Gospel codices.
Its close textual relationship with fourth-century Codex Vaticanus across a gap of more than a century demonstrates continuity in one important stream of transmission. It does not prove that every copy was identical, but it shows disciplined preservation.
Historical Significance
P75 is a leading early witness to Luke and John and to the stability of an ancient textual tradition.
