Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, became very sick, and his sisters sent word to Jesus. Jesus delayed coming, and Lazarus died and was buried. When Jesus arrived, Martha told Him that if He had been there, Lazarus would not have died. Jesus told her that Lazarus would rise again and said, "I am the resurrection and the life."

Jesus went to the tomb and asked for the stone to be removed. After praying, Jesus called out in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" Lazarus came out of the tomb alive, still wrapped in burial cloths.

Many people who saw this miracle believed in Jesus, but others reported it to the religious leaders, and from that time they began planning to kill Jesus.
