Sidon
Economy and Trade
Sidon prospered through seaborne trade, shipbuilding, skilled crafts, and exchange with inland communities. Its merchants sailed the Mediterranean and traded in timber, textiles, glass, metals, pottery, and other goods.
The city was especially associated in antiquity with fine craftsmanship. Its economic fortunes depended on access to harbors, trading partners, and the policies of the empires that controlled the coast.
