Decline and End

The Hasmonean conquest ended Idumea as a separately governed Hellenistic district. The name and Idumean identity did not disappear immediately. Both remained relevant during the late Hasmonean and Herodian eras, and the region continued to appear in early Roman geographical descriptions.
