A Visit With Jesus

The Edomites worshiped several deities, but the god Qos, also written Qaus, became particularly associated with Edomite identity. The divine name appears in personal names and in records mentioning Edomite kings.

Edomite religion shared many features with the wider religious world of the southern Levant. Archaeological discoveries include pottery, figurines, and objects that provide clues about religious practices and everyday beliefs.

The Edomite language belonged to the Northwest Semitic language family and was closely related to Hebrew and Moabite. Surviving inscriptions are limited, but they show the cultural connections among neighboring peoples.

The Edomites also shared aspects of daily life with surrounding communities, including farming, animal husbandry, trade, and the use of local sanctuaries.
