Archaeological Evidence

Tell Hesban (Tall Hisban) is widely associated with later Heshbon and has substantial Iron Age and later remains, including a large reservoir. Excavations have not demonstrated a Late Bronze Age city there corresponding to the traditional setting of Sihon. Tall Jalul has been suggested as an alternative, but the proposal is not established. Archaeological remains from these sites document regional settlement rather than Sihon personally.
