The pre-Israelite population belonged to the wider Canaanite cultural world. The name Jerusalem may preserve an ancient divine element, but this does not establish a specific cult or temple at the site. The Bible later names Araunah (Ornan) the Jebusite, whose threshing floor David purchased. Details of specifically Jebusite religious practice are limited.
