Iturean political organization varied. The earlier principality had rulers such as Ptolemy son of Mennaeus and Lysanias. Under Roman influence, its territories were divided, reassigned, or incorporated into neighboring client domains. Iturea should therefore not be presented as one continuous monarchy.
