Government
Ammon was governed by kings whose authority extended over the capital, surrounding towns, agricultural communities, and trade routes.
The Bible names several Ammonite rulers, including Nahash, Hanun, and Baalis. Other kings are known from Assyrian inscriptions and archaeological discoveries.
The Tell Siran bronze bottle, discovered near Amman, preserves the names of three generations of Ammonite kings. This provides valuable independent evidence for the continuity of a royal dynasty.
The kingdom appears to have possessed an organized administration capable of maintaining fortified settlements, managing agricultural resources, and participating in international diplomacy.
During periods of Assyrian domination, Ammonite kings retained local authority while acknowledging the power of the empire.
