Decline and End

There is no surviving account of the conquest or formal end of Geshur. The kingdom disappears from the biblical narrative as a separate political actor after the period associated with David.

The expansion of Aram-Damascus and later Assyria changed the political organization of the northern Jordan Valley and southern Syria. Geshur may have been absorbed into one of these larger powers, but the timing and circumstances cannot be established securely.
