Geshur
Government
Geshur had a monarchy during the period described in 2 Samuel. Talmai son of Ammihud is its only king clearly named in the biblical account.
His daughter’s marriage to David suggests that Geshur’s royal household maintained relations with the Israelite monarchy. The Bible does not describe its administrative system, army, succession rules, or exact extent of royal authority.
Excavations at et-Tell have uncovered large fortifications and monumental buildings that some scholars associate with a local kingdom. These discoveries suggest organized political power in the region but cannot by themselves identify its rulers as kings of Geshur.
