A Visit With Jesus

Very little is known directly about the religious life of Geshur. Its position among the cultures of southern Syria and northern Transjordan suggests that its inhabitants participated in regional traditions, but specific gods and ceremonies cannot confidently be assigned to the kingdom.

Excavations at et-Tell have revealed religious installations and standing stones, including a decorated stele near the city gate. Some researchers connect these remains with the religious practices of an Iron Age Geshurite center.

That interpretation depends on the proposed identification of the site with Geshur. It should not be presented as direct proof of the kingdom’s religious beliefs.
