Zobah

Historical Background

A Visit With Jesus

Aramean-speaking communities and kingdoms emerged across Syria during the early first millennium BC. These communities did not belong to one united state. Some developed local kingdoms that competed for roads, farmland, and political influence.

The Bible names Zobah among the enemies faced by Saul and later identifies Hadadezer as its king. The accounts suggest a northern political center with allies and military resources.

Scholars disagree about the precise geography and the extent to which the biblical narratives preserve contemporary records or later memories of Aramean warfare.
