"Tell Hesban Excavations"

Tell Hesban is important because its excavations provide a detailed history of settlement in the region traditionally associated with biblical Heshbon. The absence of identified Late Bronze Age occupation also illustrates the difficulties involved in connecting archaeological remains with particular biblical events. The excavations have contributed substantially to understanding Iron Age Transjordan and later regional history.
