Ashdodites are mentioned in the account of opposition faced by the Jews during the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall. They are also called Ashdothites in the territorial description of Philistia.

Their name derives from Ashdod, the Philistine stronghold on the Mediterranean coast.
