Baana
Baana was the name of several men, including two officials who supplied Solomon’s court, the father of a builder in Nehemiah’s time, and a leader who returned from exile.
Definition
Baana, meaning “son of affliction” or “son of oppression,” was the name of several men. Two were commissariat officers in Solomon’s service; another was the father of Zadok, the builder; and another was a leader who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.
Biblical Usage
The two officers supplied Solomon’s court. Baana’s other appearances connect the name with temple or city building and with the postexilic return.
Historical Background
The postexilic Baana belonged to the group that returned with Zerubbabel to Jerusalem.
