RAZIS
Razis was a respected Jewish elder in Jerusalem during the Maccabean period. When threatened with capture for opposing Hellenism, he killed himself; the account presents his death in a manner consistent with the period’s strong national and religious zeal.
Biblical Usage
In 2 Maccabees, Razis was accused before Nicanor and, seeking to avoid capture, took his own life while calling upon the Lord of life in hope of resurrection.
