Witness of the Spirit
The witness of the Spirit is the Holy Spirit’s inward assurance that believers are children of God. This testimony accompanies faith in Christ and is seen in filial confidence, comfort, conviction, prayer, and a desire for holy love.
Biblical Usage
Romans presents the Spirit as bearing witness with the believer’s spirit that believers are children of God. This testimony is associated with reliance on the Son, the cry “Abba, Father,” comfort, prayer, reproof of sin, works of love, and testimony before the world. First John also speaks of the witness within the believer.
