Zadok

Zadok was a priest loyal to David who later supported Solomon's succession and became foundational to Jerusalem's continuing high-priestly line.
Biography
Zadok first appears among priests and leaders associated with David. During Absalom's rebellion, Zadok and Abiathar brought the ark from Jerusalem, but David ordered them to return it and use their sons as messengers. Zadok remained loyal again during Adonijah's attempt to seize the throne and, at David's command, joined Nathan and Benaiah in anointing Solomon king at Gihon. Solomon later removed Abiathar from the priesthood and appointed Zadok in his place. Chronicles preserves Zadok within the Aaronic priestly genealogy, and later biblical tradition associates legitimate Jerusalem priesthood with his descendants.
Biblical Significance
Zadok's steadfast loyalty during two succession crises helped establish the priestly line that became closely associated with the Jerusalem Temple. The 'sons of Zadok' later receive special prominence in Ezekiel's priestly vision.
