This nineteenth-century icon is catalogued as Lord Almighty and dated to the first quarter of the century. Its workshop, provenance, and present location have not yet been confirmed.
The title suggests the established Christ Pantocrator tradition, presenting Jesus as sovereign Lord. The actual icon should be inspected before specifying the gesture, book, colors, or inscriptions.
The Pantocrator tradition affirms Christ as divine ruler and judge, continuing a visual language developed many centuries earlier.
Its place in this collection illustrates the persistence of traditional Eastern Christian imagery alongside new nineteenth-century Western styles.
The icon tradition remained important in Orthodox worship and influenced later revivals of sacred painting.
