c. 1323-1319 BC

Ay came to the throne late in life following the death of Tutankhamun and ruled Egypt only briefly. A senior official before becoming pharaoh, he helped oversee Egypt's continuing transition away from the religious changes of the Amarna Period.

c. 1319-1292 BC

Horemheb was a former military commander who became the final pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty. He strengthened royal administration, restored traditional religious institutions, and helped erase the remaining official legacy of the Amarna rulers.
