Twosret was the final ruler of Egypt's 19th Dynasty and one of the few women to rule ancient Egypt as pharaoh. Her reign followed years of dynastic instability and ended amid political upheaval that led to the establishment of the 20th Dynasty.

Setnakhte founded Egypt's 20th Dynasty after a period of political disorder at the end of the 19th Dynasty. His brief reign restored stability sufficiently for his son, Ramesses III, to inherit a more secure kingdom.
