Ramesses I founded Egypt's 19th Dynasty after a distinguished military and administrative career under Horemheb. His reign was very brief, but his accession established the Ramesside royal line that would produce Seti I and Ramesses II.

Seti I restored Egyptian authority in parts of the Near East and undertook major building projects throughout Egypt. His reign is especially remembered for the magnificent temple at Abydos and for laying the foundations for the long rule of his son Ramesses II.

Ramesses II, or Ramesses the Great, was one of Egypt's longest-reigning and most celebrated pharaohs. His reign featured extensive building, warfare with the Hittites, and the famous peace treaty following the Battle of Kadesh.
